1325897 Stapling machines SWINGLINE Inc 23 Oct 1970 [1 May 1970] 50358/70 Heading B4C A stapling machine 11, Fig. 1, comprises a base 12 a magazine arm 32, 37 pivotally mounted on the base by a pin 7 for angular movement in a vertical plane towards and away from the base, and, adjacent opposite side portions 35, Fig. 11, of the magazine arm and carried by the base, restraining means comprising abutment members 4, Fig. 11, to restrain the magazine arm against displacement laterally with respect to the plane of angular movement during stapling operation of the machine, the abutments 4 being carried by spaced ear members 30. The magazine 32 includes a follower 34, Fig. 3, connected to a spring 6 to move staples in the magazine forwardly. The magazine 32 includes a cover 37 and an overlying cap 38. The cap carries the staple driving means (not shown). The magazine 32, cover 37 and cap 38 are invertible relative to the base 12 so that the machine can be used for tacking. The staple driver co-operates with an anvil 24 which is chamfered at 26, 27, Fig. 5, to permit easy sliding of paper, and has a clinching recess 28 and a pinning recess 29 which are selected by rotating the anvil after freeing it from its retaining recess 25 by operation of a button 22, Fig. 3. The anvil may also be additionally chamfered at (5), Fig. 16 (not shown), to prevent damage to the base paintwork, when the anvil is lifted clear of the recess 25 for turning.
