Abstract

1,113,079. Attaching tags by pinning. KIMBALL SYSTEMS Inc. 14 Nov., 1966 [4 Jan., 1966], No. 50949/66. Heading B4C. An apparatus for attaching a tag T to an article comprises a plunger 23 yieldably mounted in a movable plunger 5 which is adapted to be moved a predetermined distance towards an anvil 3 so that the plunger 23 yieldably cooperates with the anvil for holding articles therebetween, and a driver means 31 for inserting a pin 32 into the tag and article. The plunger 5 is actuated by means of a lever 7 actuated by a cam 9 mounted on a rotary shaft 10, the driver 31 being operated by a lever (30, Fig. 2) mounted on the same shaft. The plunger 23 is loaded outwardly by means of a spring 22, the outward distance being limited by a plate 25 held in the movable plunger 5 by means of pins 27; the plunger is formed with a groove 34 for supporting the pin 32. In operation, an article is placed over a support 2 and located against a stop 1. Upon actuation of the machine, a tag is moved over the article from a magazine 20 by means of a cam-actuated slide 18. The plunger 5 is then raised, causing the plunger 23 to contact the article and move it together with the tag against the anvil 3. The driver is not actuated so as to move a pin through the article and tag as shown in Fig. 4, until the point of the pin is bent downwardly by surface 35 on the anvil. A support member 37 having a sloping surface 38 is adapted to bend up a corner of the tag so that the tip of the pin enters partially the thickness of the tag.
