Abstract

Stamp for embossing numbers and/or letters onto a finished vehicle bodywork of sheet metal or other metal parts has an outer housing defining an opening to be contacted with the sheet metal or other metallic article. An electrodynamic actuator within the housing cooperates with displaceable punches, and can be itself displaced longitudinally. The actuator can be swivelled in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. Preferably the housing has two opposed support parts near the opening, as magnetic, cylindrical parts with a side aligned with the opening and with air gaps to increase the flux. A hole in the metal sheet can be engaged by a centering pin that extends downward and axially away from the magnetic part. No counter element need be used on the opposite side of the metal sheet.
