Abstract

701,571. Cartridge clip filling mechanism. FRENCH & SONS, Ltd., T. Aug. 3, 1951 [May 5. 1950], No. 31130/49. Class 92(2) Mechanism for charging cartridges into clips comprises means for loading the cartridges into the recesses 14 of a carrier 12, means for presenting a clip to the ends of the cartridges in the carrier, and means for moving the clip and loaded carrier relatively to each other to force the cartridges into the clip. In the construction shown, the carrier forms part of a carriage 5 which, by means of a pin 10 and a cam 9, reciprocates beneath shoots 3 and 15 supplying the cartridges and clips respectively. As the carriage moves to the right, and towards the end of its movement, a lug 34 thereon engages a tang 33 on a plate 31 thus moving the plate clear of the shoot 3 and allowing cartridges to enter the three recesses to the left of the carrier 12. The remaining two recesses are filled during the return stroke. A cam in the shoot and chamfered edges in the recesses 14 combine to locate the cartridges so that they are correctly presented to a clip at the base of the shoot 15. A clamp 17 bears on the cartridges as they are moved by carriage 5 into the clip and a block 18 bears against the end of the clip during the filling operation. A cam 20 releases the block when the clip is filled, and the filled clip continues to move to the left, and when it is adjacent a discharge shoot 23 a cam-actuated member gives it a quick upward movement which sends it clear of the carrier and thence down the shoot. In the meantime a lug 35 on the carriage has returned the plate 31 to the original position. Devices are provided in the shoots 3, 15, for releasing the cartridges and clips in the required manner.
