[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In a machine for performing successive operations on an intermittently fed strip of material s means for detecting inaccurate feed comprises an electric switch 15 and a feeler 25 actuated in timed relation with the operative cycle of the machine and responsive in movement to the position of said strip so that, if this has not been fed correctly, it operates the switch 15. This is mounted on a table 14, Fig. 4, of a member 13 which is pivoted at 12 to a bracket 10 and is biassed in a clockwise direction by a spring 22 but can be oscillated counterclockwise by an adjustable cam 19 thereof being engaged by a pin 35 on the press head 34 which carries the punches &c. for operating on the strip s. A member 24 also pivoted at 12 carries the feeler 25, adapted to engage a series of holes 5 in the strip s and is normally held in fixed relation to the member 13 by a spring 30 tending to move it counterclockwise, its arm 24a engaging under the table 14 of the member 13. If the strip s is not fed the correct distance the feeder 25 cannot enter the hole 5 when the member 13 is moved counterclockwise by the pin 35 and the member 24 is thus moved, relative to the member 13, counterclockwise and its set screw 31 engages a pin 33 of a switch 15 to cut off the current and stop the press. In a modification, the member 13 may be tilted during both up and down strokes of the press head by using a pin 35<1>, Fig. 7, with an enlarged head 36 and a cam 19<1> with inclines 20<1>, 20<11>.
