Abstract

971,987. Cams. TEXTRON Inc. July 3, 1963 [July 11, 1962], No. 26389/63. Heading F2K. A cam-shaft 17 carries an advancing cam 24, adapted to act upon cam follower 31.to advance a plunger 26 and punch 28 into a die 13, and a lifter cam 25, adapted to act upon a plate 35 carried by a pivoted arm 34 which is connected to a lifter bar 37, adjustably clamped to the plunger 26, by an adjustable tumbuckle link 36. A friction rod 41 is also pivoted to lifter bar 37 and slidably engages friction sleeve 42 mounted on the machine frame. When the lifter mechanism has been raised to its maximum height by the lifter: cam 25, it will remain in that position, due to frictional co-operation between the rod 41 and sleeve 42, until the advancing cam 24 contacts cam follower 31 to again advance the plunger 26. The cam follower 31 is carried by an adjustable wedge 29. The invention is applied to a multiple-station cam eyelet machine in which a plurality of dies 13 are operated by plurality of advancing cams 24 and lifter cams 25 mounted on the cam-shaft 17.
