Abstract

1,043,753. Tool holders; stamping. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. June 22, 1965 [July 7, 1964], No. 27886/64. Headings B3H and B3Q. A press tool gripper includes a gripping head 28 which is normally urged vertically upwards by spring discs 18 to clamp a press tool 31 against a crosshead 13. A gripper is conveniently positioned on each side of the tool. The head 28 is pivoted at 26 to a rod 15, the spring discs acting between a collar 20 on the rod and a flange 17 secured to a crosshead 12. When the rod 15 is pressed downwardly by an hydraulic ram 21, or by appropriate hydraulic modifications to the cylinder 14, the head moves vertically to release the tool and then, by means of a pair of links 33 pivoted at 32, is constrained to move laterally, to the dotted position shown. A transversely situated spring connecting the head 28 and links urges the parts towards each other to thus assume a vertical position.
