Abstract

745,535. Blank punching. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1954 [Feb. 18, 1953], No. 4558/53. Class 83 (4). A collecting device for use with a blank punching press comprises means arranged to be moved intermittently between the tools of the press and to receive and collect ejected blanks in a pile, pack or stack all facing in the same direction. The device comprises an I-section pivoted bar 5 which is moved into the gap 6 between inclined tools 3 and 4 of a crank-operated press for punching out slotted iron laminae for electric motors from sheet metal. The bar has a curved finger part 7 which enters one of the peripheral slots in the punched lamina as it is ejected from the punch 4 so that the lamina hangs on the lower flange 8 of the bar 5 and slides towards the lower pivoted end of the bar where it is arrested by a removable stop 9. The bar is actuated by an eccentric 10 on the crankshaft 11 of the press and connecting rod 13 carrying a knuckle-pin 14 which moves in a right-angled slot 15 in a stationary plate 16. The knuckle pin carries a plate 17 attached to a mounting bar 22 which supports the bar 5. The lower end of the mounting bar is held by, but allowed to slide through, a shoe 23 pivoted on the press frame. The portion 15A of the slot imparts longitudinal movement to the bar to move it into and out of the press and the portion 15B moves the finger 7 of the bar towards and away from the top tool 4. In a modification the bar 5 is shortened to deliver punched blanks to a detachable magazine and the tip of the bar is spring-loaded by means 25 to allow it to dwell on the top tool for a short period. The mounting bar 22 in this modification is of dovetail section and pivotally supports the bar 5 on an adjustable shoe 24. A stabilizing bar 26 arranged alongside the bar 5 eliminates any sideward swing of the blanks during their descent. The detachable magazine consists of two I- section beams 27 and 28 fastened at their lower ends to opposite sides of a spacing piece 29 and at their upper ends to a bridge 33 on the mounting bar 22.
