Abstract

1,024,798. Shearing. H. GEORG. March 3, 1964, No. 8977/64. Heading B3W. In an arrangement for dividing intermittently moved material, the material is conveyed by continuously driven rollers which are separated to interrupt the feed, through a straightening apparatus and then through a shear which is controlled by a stop which is engaged by the leading end of the material and is adjustable in position in relation to the shear, the arrangement being characterized in that means are provided in the feed path of the material and preceding the stop, which initiate the separation of the feed rollers. Wire or rod 5 is driven by feed rollers 3, 4 through a straightener 1, and a shear 11 towards trip means 18 and a stop 19. Passage of the material beneath the trip completes an electric circuit through contacts 21, 22, 23 and through a magnetic or magnetohydraulic unit 25 raises a frame 6 which supports the feed rollers 3, and which is spring- loaded to press the rollers together. The material continues to move by its own momentum until it strikes the stop 19, and thereby closes the contacts 27, 28 in the operating circuit of a magnetic or magneto-hydraulic unit 30. This unit rotates a three-armed gag 15 which is mounted on the upper blade carrier 12 of the sheer 11 so that a crank 14 produces a working stroke of the shear. The feed rollers 3, 4 remain separated until the cut-off material is removed from the table 20 which is tipped by a magnetic or magneto-hydraulic unit 31 having contacts 34, 35 in its circuit, which is closed by a member 32 when the unit 30 operates.
