Abstract
901,318. Punching. DOWDING & DOLL Ltd. April 4, 1960 [March 13, 1959], No. 8768/59. Class 83 (4). A punch-press comprises a crank-shaft 2 driving a ram 1, and a work-stripper 16 positioned by means 8, 14, 7 operated by the crankshaft and ram, the stripper being restrained from moving with the punch 5 during withdrawal of the punch from the work 13. Projections 17 on the punch-holder 4 are embraced by the stripper-sleeve 16, which has limited axial movement relatively to the holder. Keys 7 loosely mounted on the holder 4 engage keyways in a guide 6 and have projections 7a movable in short keyways in the holder. Overlaying the keys 7 are blocks 15 on rods 14 connected to cross-heads 8 which have slots 10 engaged by a pin 9 in the ram 1. Movement of the crank-shaft 2 from its top deadcentre moves pin 9 to the bottom of slots 10, so that the punch projects from the bottom of sleeve 16. The cross-heads 8, rods 14, blocks 15 and keys 7 then move down with the ram, and the punch pierces the work. At the bottom deadcentre of the crank-shaft, arcuate plates 11 on the crank-shaft engage rollers 12 on the crossheads, preventing upward movement of the sleeve 16 until the punch has cleared the work.
