804,913. Stapling. CRABTREE & SONS, Ltd., R. W. March 17, 1955 [March 17, 1954; Aug. 16, 1954], Nos. 7777/54 and 23784/54. Class 89(3) In a rotary stapling machine comprising a cylinder 17 carrying a punch 29 which forces a length of wire into a stapleforming recess 27 in a die cylinder 16 from which it is subsequently ejected and is clenched by cooperation with an anvil on a cylinder 7, and in which the staple is ejected by a diametrically slidable plunger 28 which is moved to and fro by the punch, (a) movement of the plunger 28 is cushioned by rubber rings 34, 35 arranged between a flange 31 and stops 32, 33 which may be faced with fabric reinforced plastic washers 36, and/or (b) the punch 29 is mounted by limited movement outwards of the cylinder 17 to compensate for thickness &c. variations of the work to be stapled. The striker end 24 of the plunger 28 may be retracted by a spring 37. Specifications 740,079 and 743,068 are referred to.
