Abstract

A hand held pneumatic stapling machine comprises a safety device to prevent operation of the machine when not contacting a workpiece. The machine is controlled by a trigger-actuated valve 17 which, as shown, allows communication between a reservoir of compressed air 21 and a chamber 20 of a piston drive distributing valve. A work cycle of the piston is commenced when the trigger is squeezed thus cutting off supply of air from the reservoir to the valve 20 and connecting the distributing valve with bores 9-13, and when valve member 6 is moved against action of spring 7 by movement of plunger 4 upon contacting a work surface to permit chamber 2 to communicate via bore 5 with the atmosphere. Staple guiding plate 1 is detachably connected to the body K of the machine.
