A centre-post-type gramophone record-changer mechanism has the weight of the stack of records awaiting playing supported by the record-release lever during the time that the lever is releasing the lowermost record for playing. The straight-type centre-post 5 is fixedly mounted to the motor-board 1 together with the boss 8 around which the turntable is mounted (Fig. 2, not shown). The post is recessed 13, providing a horizontal shoulder 6, and is slotted on the side opposite the shoulder so as to accommodate the record-release lever 16. This lever is so shaped as to be movable vertically as well as by rocking to the extent indicated by Figs. 4, 5, 6. Horizontal movement, of the member 21, controlled by the autochange mechanism (not shown) raises and lowers the lever 16 in a controlled manner, whilst the horizontal and vertical components of movement of the upper end of the lever are coordinated by the action of the cross-pin 25 on the inclined surface 24 of a notch 23 in the lever 16. The stack of records awaiting playing 7 rests, during playing of a record, on the shoulder 6, guided by the usual components 27-32. Successive steps in the release of a record are shown in Figs. 4, 5, 6. The diagonal movement of the upper end of the lever 16 up to the Fig. 6 stage ensures that the lowermost record falls freely down the post while the upper edge 22 of the lever prevents the remaining records from following. As the lever is lowered again by the mechanism to the Fig. 4 position, friction between the edge 22 and the new lowermost record in the stack assists in feeding that record into the recess 13. The arrangement of the components 27-32 allows the member 27 to retract into the post when removing the played records.
