In a record changer having a control mechanism with a plurality of cam tracks and a track follower associated with the tone arm arranged to climb or descend sloping wall portions of one or more tracks as in Specifications 852,061 and 859,371, the track follower is arranged on an arm which is tiltable against resilient action. In the embodiment described, a follower arm 194 is provided by diametrically spaced balls whereby the said arm 194 may tilt a small amount limited by flaps 272a, 272b laterally disposed with regard to the balls. The follower arm 194 is frictionally mounted on the tone arm spindle 260 and controls the horizontal movements of the tone arm 150 as described in the above-mentioned Specifications. Similarly, the vertical movements are effected by a lever 250 acting on the underside of the cam-disc. The automatic cycle is initiated in well-known manner by a tap-tap lever 228 which rests on, and is frictionally coupled to, a hook-shaped lever 225 having an aperture engaged by a pin on an arm 227 on the tone arm spindle. The manner in which the setting down of the pickup is controlled by the engagement of the pickup with the edge of the next record to be played, in conjunction with the follower arm and the cam-disc ramp, and the manner in which the machine is switched off after the last record is substantially as in the prior mentioned Specifications. The machine may be started and stopped by a subsidiary control 113a for manual control of the pick-up for the playing of single records. In such case the drive of the turntable is stopped and started by a bar 172 which operates the switch bar 136, but owing to lost motion between the latter and the main control lever 124 operated by control 113, movement of the cam disc 190 is not initiated. At the end of a record, however, the tap-tap lever initiates an automatic cycle to lift and return the pick-up and stop the machine in the usual manner. Specification 757,379 also is referred to.
