Abstract
1,197,739. Record changer. BSR Ltd. 9 Jan., 1969 [22 Dec., 1967], No. 58323/67. Heading G5B. In an automatic record change mechanism for different size records in which a member 27 controlling pick-up arm movement is oscillated once about its pivot 28 during each change by the usual cam wheel rotation, the pick-up arm is moved horizontally by engagement of a drive pin 43 on a quadrant selector arm 33, which is secured to the pick-up arm, by a lug 44 mounted on the member 27 and tiltable against the action of a spring out of engagement with the drive pin. The oscillating member 27 is driven initially anticlockwise from the cam wheel by roller 26 and is formed with a ramp 32 which co-operates with a pin 30 to lift the pick-up from the record. Leading edge 44b of the tiltable lug 44 now engages pin 43 to swing the quadrant plate and the pick-up arm until the latter reaches its fully outward position at which the quadrant plate engages a stop (not shown). The lug now tilts and passes under the pin 43. As the oscillating member approaches its other extreme position abutment member 57 engages a finger 53 to disengage it from an abutment 58 on a selector bar 36. This enables the bar 36 to pivot under the action of spring 38 to bring its abutment 42a into engagement with a recess 42 on a member 39 which is set in accordance with the size of the record to be played. On the return of the oscillating member the other side of the part 44b of the tiltable member now engages pin 43 on the quardant member thus the member and the pick-up arm are caused to swing inwardly until one of the abutments 35 engages abutment 39a on bar 36 which has been positioned in accord with the record size. The lug then rides over the drive pin 43 and continued movement of the oscillalating member lowers the pick-up on to the table by co-operation of pin 30 with ramp 32 and at the same time abutment 56 moves finger 53 into engagement with abutment 58 on the selector bar 36 and swings the latter out of engagement 58 on the selector bar 36 and swings the latter out of engagement with the quadrant selector plate 33 thus freeing the pick-up arm to play the record.
