In an automatic record changer in which a slide 96 is reciprocated towards and then away from the turntable centre once during each change cycle, the slide is deflected sideways during the change following the playing of the last.record to operate switch off means. The auto change cycle is automatically triggered when tone arm lever 80 via rod 94 rotates arm 90 so that clutch coupled lever 92 engages trip pawl 88 and moves it, as the stylus enters the record run out groove, into contact with pin 52 on:the turntable drive shaft whereby the usual cam disc 54 is rotated into engagement with its drive gear 50. This operation can be initiated manually by selector 132 which moves a depending ear 158 on control lever 134 into contact with the trip pawl. As the cam disc rotates a pin 106 on-the disc engaged in a slot 108 on the slide 96 reciprocates it towards and away from the turntable centre when the normal record change sequence is carried out. When the last record has been played a stabilizer arm drops and its support shaft 44 moves into the path of a sloping shoulder on the slide. During the next change the slide is deflected against the action of spring 166 by the shaft 44 and engages and moves a lever: 138 which in turn moves control lever 134 off a first stop 156 whereby the lever is moved by spring 150 into contact with a second stop 154. This latter movement actuates switch mover 130 to its off position.
