[Classes 40 (i) and 40 (ii)] A magazine gramophone which may be coinfreed, comprises pre-selector mechanism operable by the user to select one or a series of disc or cylinder records from the magazine for transfer to the playing position, and mechanism to automatically select one, or a series of a similar number of records if the pre. selection mechanism is not operated. Means also provided to effect an automatic resetting of the automatic selecting mechanism in order to vary the records selected each time the machine is operated. The machine is started in known manner and the switch 1 is closed by a cam coupled to the driving motor. The preselection means comprises a number of tablets 2-7 corresponding to the records in the magazine and controlling the spring sets 9-11. The withdrawal of the records from the magazine is controlled by solenoids 15, the circuit of each of which is completed over the corresponding spring set in the operated position and the earlier spring sets in the normal position. With the common switch 1 closed and. the motor - driven wiper 17 engaging contact 16, the solenoid 15 corresponding to the earliest operated tablet is energized, after which the passage of wiper 17 over the contacts 19 energizes a solenoid 20 to restore the operative tablet. When the first selected record has been played, wiper 17 engages contact 16 again and the next operated tablet is effective in a similar way. The automatic selection means comprises an inner ring 21 connected to strip 11 of the tablet 7, six segmental contacts 22, each connected to a solenoid 15, and a blade 23 rotated by a ratchet and pawl 24, or by a worm drive, from one contact 22 to the next each time the machine is operated to play a record, so that the solenoids 15 are energized in turn, provided no tablet is depressed. Cancellation of pre-selection is effected by a switch 25 which operates the solenoids 20 in turn. The number of records played in the case of a coin controlled machine is controlled in known manner.
