Multiple machines.-In a gramophone, or the like adapted automatically to play a number of records in succession, the records 7 are supported in an inclined position above the turntable 21 by stationary supports 8 and a continuously-rotated disc 2 having a cut-away portion 3 adapted to release the records, a plate 4 adapted to enter periodically between the record next to be released and that above it being so mounted on the disc above the portion 3 as to be capable of a slight movement in the direction of the thickness of the records, whereby the plate can adapt itself to varying thicknesses of records. The movement of the plate, towards the upper surface of the disc is limited by pins 6. As shown, the plate is pivoted to the disc, but it may alter. natively be formed of resilient material secured to the disc at a point remote from the portion 3. The shaft 1 to which the disc is secured and which is carried in a fixed tube 14 is rotated by a ratchet wheel 16 driven through a pawl 17 by a lever 18 engaging an eccentric 20 secured to the turntable 21. When a record is released by the movement of the disc, it slides down a rod 10 carried by a pivoted support 11 and depresses an arm 24 secured to the goose-neck 25. whereby the sound box 26 is raised until a pin 29 on the nrm 24 engages the tone-arm 27. The latter is thus swung outwardly until it engages the tube 14. The record now falls on to the turntable, and, due to the weight of the goose-neck, the arm 24 slides along a stationary inclined surface 30 until it engages the inclined edge 23 of a plate 22 depending from the disc 2. The soundbox is now above the starting position on the record and, as the disc continues to rotate, is lowered on to the record.
