Abstract

325,795. Sandford, L. G. Nov. 21, 1928. Sound-boxes, arrangement of.-Gramophones having a separate sound-box for playing each side of a disc record, and means for controlling the direction of rotation of the record to suit either sound-box, are further provided with automatic means for bringing the disc into contact with the second sound-box when the first soundbox has completed its travel. In the apparatus shown, the record disc 19 is carried by a spindle a supported by a lever 10 fulcrumed at 11 and retained by a hook 16 on a second lever 14 having a fulcrum 15. The end 21 of the lever 14 engages a cam 20 on the tone-arm 17 of the sound-box 18 so that, when the upper side of the record has been played, the hook 16 is moved to release the lever 10 and allow the record to drop under the control of a dashpot 13. The sound-box 24 is meanwhile moved upwardly to engage the underside of the record by a spring pillar 26 on the lever 10. Moving with the spindle a are friction discs i, i<1> which engage in turn with oppositely driven discs d, f to change the direction of rotation of the record.
