Speed-regulating.-A gramophone turntable is controlled to run at a constant linear tracking speed by causing the traverse of the stylus to move a magnet or electromagnet so as to vary its action on a part driven from the motor. As shown, a magnet 18 carried by the pivot spindle 15 of the tone-arm 7 is carried by the tracking action of the stylus 6 across a disc 9 driven by gears 11 from the spring motor 2 so as to produce a magnetic braking effect which maintains a constant tracking speed. The spindle 10 of the disc 9 may carry a governor 19 or a flywheel. The Provisional Specification also described the employment of an electromagnet which may be stationary but has the strength of its field varied as the stylus tracks the record.
