Abstract

708,235. Gramophone turntable accessories. INDUSTRIAKTIEBOLAGET LUXOR. Dec. 2, 1952 [Dec. 17, 1951], No. 30531/52. Class 40 (2). A speed changing device for use on a gramophone turntable or reel 4 of a magnetic transducing apparatus, comprises a disc 7 which rests on the turntable or wire 4 and is also used for carrying a gramophone record, and a stepped wheel 10 which when moved to engage both disc 7 and turntable or reel 4 effects a speed reduction of the disc 7, but when disengaged permits the disc 7 to move at the normal speed of the turntable or reel 4 owing to the element of friction between the disc 7 and turntable 4, whereby a standard 78 r.p.m. record may be played without removal of the disc 7. In a modification, two movable wheels, each of different diameters, are employed so that by engagement of one or the other two reduction speeds are obtained, such as 45 and 33 1/3 r.p.m. In another embodiment, Figs. 2 and .3, a unitary device for obtaining the above speeds, comprises a plate 16, for placing on a turntable 13, having a solid flange 19 therewith which frictionally engaged a disc 20 on which a record may be supported. A stationary plate 23 supports a pivoted plate 25 carrying stepped wheels 31, 32 of different diameters, which may alternatively be moved into contact with the plate 16 and disc 20 according to the speed desired. The plate 23 may carry a pick-up specially intended for use on long-playing records.
