Abstract

Sound-grooves; feed mechanism; speed-regulating.-A long-playing sound-record disc is made by rotating the disc at a much reduced speed, for example <1>/10 th, or <1>/12th. of the usual speed during recording, all other factors remaining as usual. Reproduction is effected on an ordinary gramophone controlled to run at the reduced speed. In recording, the cutter head is mounted on a swinging arm traversed by gear connection with the turntable drive. In reproducing, the turntable is geared down to run at the required slow speed and is governed by a governor 36, Fig. 3, mounted on an arm 30 pivoted on the gramophone casing A and resting on a disc.38 engaging over the turntable spindle 10. The disc 38 is driven by the record 10<a> and drives the governor through friction cones.
