Abstract

816,785. Combustion chambers. FIAT, S.p.A. June 13, 1957 [July 12, 1956], No. 18717/57. Class 7(3) A combustion chamber 2 in the cylinder head, closed at the top by an exhaust valve seating in the port 3, is provided with an injector 6 having its axis 7 inclined at an angle of 15 degrees 30 feet to a plane perpendicular to the cylinder axis and at an angle b, Fig. 2, of 12 degrees to a plane 9 at right angles to the plane 10 through the centres of the inlet and exhaust valves parallel to the cylinder axis, the injector being arranged to produce four jets 13...16, Fig. 5, situated in a plane 17 at an angle of 11 degrees to a plane perpendicular to the cylinder axis. The inner jets 14, 15 are each at an angle of 15 degrees to the axis of symmetry of the jets and the outer jets 13. 16 are at angles of 45 degrees thereto. The combustion chamber is basically cylindrical in shape and its wall is recessed adjacent the injector. A formula is given for the distance of the point of conveyance of the fuel jets from the axis of the combustion chamber.
