Abstract

816,706. Fusible cut-outs. BELLING & LEE Ltd. April 18, 1957 [May 3, 1956], No. 13659/56. Class 38 (1). In order to provide a fuse having desired fusing characteristics which will blow more quickly on overload and be more resistant to surges, part (or the whole) of the fuse element is in the form of a coil 6 wound on a glass rod 9, the element being housed in a cartridge having end caps 2, 3 to which it is soldered. The coil is of wire thicker than that required to give said desired fusing characteristics at a particular current rating when the wire is not coiled. On assembly of the fuse the element is slightly tensioned so that its coils do not quite touch. The support for the element may alternatively be a mica strip or ceramic rod or a strip of asbestos paper.
