Abstract

887,592. Cartridge fuses. BELLING & LEE Ltd. May 13, 1960 [May 29, 1959; July 10, 1959], Nos. 18325/59 and 23737/59. Class 38 (1). An electrical fuse includes as fusible element a length of silver of uniform cross-section with at least a part thereof plated with tin to such an extent that when the fuse is under over-load current some tin diffuses into the silver, causing a sharp reduction in fusion temperature with consequent rupture of the element. The element may be of strip form partly or completely coated, or may be of wire form only partly coated. The element 2 is housed in a cartridge fuse tube 3 which contains dried silver sand 7.
