Abstract

1430880 Fuse RTE CORP 14 March 1974 11388/74 Heading H2G A cartridge-type fuse comprises two fusible elements in series, a first quick-acting element for relatively high fault currents and a second element for lower fault currents of relatively long duration. A fusible element of Ag or Cu 16 is connected to a fusible tin element 20 by a conducting plug 21. The tin element is enclosed in a sleeve 22 which may be of silicone rubber and the resultant assembly 18, in series with element 16, is enclosed in a tube of predetermined length 10 sealed by conducting caps 12 and packed with granular refractory material 15 such as sand. The element 16 may be wire or perforated or notched strip. When element 16 is a silver wire, that there is an endothermic reaction between the silver (on fusing) and the sand, the resultant fulgurite being non-conducting.
