Abstract
732,428. Fusible cut-outs. NILSEN & CO. PROPRIETARY, Ltd., O. J. Sept. 14, 1953 [Oct. 7, 1952], No. 25341/53. Class 38 (1). A cartridge fuse comprises a refractory body 9 and a fusible element 10, the ends 10a, 10b of which are threaded through resilient metallic washers 12 and clamped by metal end caps 11 pressed on to the ends of the tube. The washers have dished parts 12a and skirts 12b to prevent fracturing of the fusible element by sharp cornors, and they also help to prevent puncturing of the end cap when the fusible element " blows." The dished parts 12a of the washers may also be radially split (Fig. 5) to ensure greater resilience, or the washer may be replaced by an element having a base apertured according to the number of fusible elements employed. The fusible elements may be wire (Fig. 1) or foils (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown). The cartridge is filled with arc-quenching material.
