Abstract

814,884. Magnetic amplifiers. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. June 16, 1955 [March 18, 1954], No. 7930/54. Class 40 (9). Self-excited transductors 1, 2 (control and selfexcitation windings not shown) are arranged so that with no input, the output windings carry substantially no current but in response to an input, one winding carries a substantial current and the other winding substantially none and vico versa if the sense of the input is reversed. The transductors 1, 2 are provided with direct current bias by windings 6, 7 and 10, 11, the windings 6, 7 being fed by the alternating current supply, rectified at 8 over windings 10, 11 being fed by the current through load 5 rectified at 12. Windings 6, 7 are in opposition to windings 10, 11 and the resultant ampere turns are bias is in opposition to the self-excitation. The two pairs of windings 6, 7 and 10, 11 may be replaced by a single pair 25, 26 as in Figs. 3 and 5. The windings 25, 26 are fed with the difference between two direct currents derived respectively from the load and the supply. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, four cores 20 to 23 are arranged as a bridge with the load 5 across a diagonal. Windings 6, 7 and 10, 11 are wound in opposition as before. Specifications 656,120 and 705,678 are referred to.
