Abstract

704,426. Automatic regulation. AKT.-GES. FUR UNTERNEHMUNGEN DER EISENUND STAHLINDUSTRIE. Feb. 11, 1952 [Feb. 12, 1951], No. 3549/52. Class 38 (4) In an automatic voltage regulator for an a.c. load (or loads) fed from an A.C. source through a saturable reactor (or reactors); each reactor has two opposed D.C. windings, one carrying a current proportional to the supply voltage and the other carrying a substantially constant current. The load 2 is supplied through the A.C. windings 5, 5, the magnetic flux of which is assisted (during the appropriate half wave of current) by windings 8, 8 supplied with a substantially constant current from rectifier 10 and iron-hydrogen resistor 13. The rectifier also supplies the opposing windings 9, 9 the ampere-turns of which are smaller than those of windings 5 and 8, so that an increase in the supply voltage reduces the resultant saturation of the core and maintains the output voltage constant. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) a number of loads are fed from a common supply through a corresponding number of reactors, all the constant current windings being in series with one iron-hydrogen resistor, and all the control windings being in series with a common rectifier.
