Abstract

766,586. Wleding supply systems. NIFTRIK, J. W. J. VAN, and VRIES, A. DE. June 29, 1954, No. 19024/54. Class 38 (4). The invention relates to a welding supply system having a saturable reactor 2 in series with the welding transformer 6 and the reactorcontrol-winding 3 energized by the rectified welding voltage. According to the invention the secondary of a current transformer 7 is connected in series with the welding voltage supply to the rectifier 5 feeding the reactor-controlwinding 3, to cause an increase in welding voltage when the load circuit is closed. The current transformer is arranged to saturate, so that as the welding current increases, the voltage characteristic assumes the normal droop, after the initial rise, Fig. 4 (not shown). On open-circuit the current transformer secondary acts as a reactor in the control circuit and only its magnetizing current flows through the reactor-control-winding 3 so that the reactor 2 has a very high no-load impedance. This magnetizing current may be eliminated by applying an opposing voltage to the current transformer from a tertiary winding 8 on the welding transformer, Fig. 5 (not shown).
