Abstract

[Also in Division H3B] A magnetic logic device having a rectangular loop ferrite core 1 (Fig. 1) with a soft iron shunt 6 is provided with oppositely wound control windings 4, 5 which determine whether or not an output is obtained from a secondary winding 3 when A.C. is applied to primary winding 2. In the embodiment shown the control current produces opposite saturating fluxes in the two halves of the core 1 so that zero output is obtained if a control current exists as well as when the input A.C. fails. In an alternative form (Fig. 2, not shown) the shunt is bridged by a permanent magnet 12 which by itself saturates the core 7 and prevents coupling between the primary and secondary windings 8 and 9, the effect of this magnet being overcome by the application of a control current. A number of alternatively usable windings carrying control currents may be used. Devices as described respectively with reference to Figs. 1 and 2 may be connected with their primary windings in series and their D.C. control windings in series (Fig. 3, not shown) so that the output of one is the inverse function of that of the other. Several devices may be connected so that the secondary winding of one supplies the primary winding of the next.
