Abstract

1,031,199. Circuits employing bi-stable magnetic elements. MULLARD Ltd. June 4, 1964 [June 5, 1963], No. 22347/63. Heading H3B. The terminal rung of a laddie core 1 is split into two equal parts 12, 13 and an output winding 5 wound around one of the parts is connected to or forms a winding on a second laddie core 7. If a binary " 0 " is stored in all the parts of the laddie 1 the flux distribution is as shown in Fig. 2 so that during a drive period when a drive pulse is applied to drive winding 3 to write a " 1 " into a core there is a flux reversal in part 13 and a complete flux path round the whole of the laddie is achieved as shown by dotted arrows, Fig. 3, resulting in an output current being induced in winding 5. After the end of the drive period a prime and a set pulse are applied over windings 6 and 2 respectively to cause a distribution of flux as shown in Fig. 4. The set pulse does not result in an output pulse since the flux circulates around the rung prior to the terminal ring. The output winding 5 forms a hold winding on core 7 and an auxiliary core 10 provided with a prime winding 11 prevents changes in flux in laddie core 7 being transferred back to core 1. More than one output winding 5 may be employed to interconnect a plurality of laddies. Alternatively, the single output winding may be connected in series with a plurality of hold or input windings.
