Abstract
The monitoring or protection circuits employing ferrite lattice cores (L1, L2) are connected in cascade error signals can be induced in the external output circuit wiring which can cause incorrect resetting of the flux in the second lattice (L2) without a corresponding change of state in the first (L1). The problem can be largely overcome by connecting the output winding (WO) of the first lattice (L1) to the base of the planar transistor (T2) connected as an emitter follower, and feeding the reset winding (WR) of the lattice (L2) connected in cascade. Using a planar transistor in this configuration causes its output impedance to limit the rise and fall times of the magneto-motive force produced by the output winding and thereby give a large measure of immunity against fast-rising spikes.
