Abstract
A mechanical mixture of a subdivided magnesium flux and a subdivided alloy of magnesium is added to molten cast iron and the magnesium containing cast iron innoculated with a graphitizing agent. The alloy may be a 5-2-2 Mg-Al-Cu alloy or may consist of 9 per cent Cu, 8 per cent Mg, 33 per cent Si and the balance iron and impurities. The mixture, in granular form may be added to a transfer ladle. Specifications 814,658 and 814,659 are referred to.
