Abstract

An alloy for adding to cast iron to bring about spheroidisation of the graphite contains in percentage by weight: .Mg.25-32 .C.0- 2 .Si.0-30 .Rare earth metal.0- 2 .Ca.0- 5 .Ni.and impurities Balance, not less .than 40%.. The alloy may be added to normal irons in amounts of 0,75-1,25% of the molten iron, or in special cases, the amounts may be only 0,25-0,30%. For best results, the addition alloy should be plunged into and substantially to the bottom of a bath of molten iron of depth substantially exceeding its width. Specification 671,463 is referred to.
