Abstract
814,178. Rotary pumps. BORSIG A.G., and WANKEL, F. Oct. 20, 1955 [Oct. 29, 1954; May 11, 1955], No. 29993/55. Class 110 (2). A rotary compressor of the n and n + 1 lobe type has a part cylindrical slide valve 9 co-operating with inlet and outlet ports 34 in the outer rotor 2 to control the suction and discharge operations simultaneously and so control the volume of gas pumped. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the slide valve 9. has one edge 12 abutting a fixed member 8 so that an edge 10 of the member 8 determines the end of the suction operation from an inlet passage 6 and an edge 11 of the slide valve 9 determines the beginning of the discharge operation. When the slide valve 9 is moved to the right the edge 10 still controls the inlet operation but when a port 34 has passed the member 8 some gas will be discharged back into the inlet passage 6 through the gap that will now exist between the member 8 and the edge 12. At the same time the edge 11 will have moved to the right and the discharge operation will begin later. In a modification, Fig. 5, the slide valve 9 has a further part having a control edge 113 for determining the end of the outlet operation and causing compressed gas in the space 5 to do work on the rotors until a control edge 24 determines the beginning of the suction operation. When the slide valve 9 is turned far enough the edge 113 uncovers a passage 120 which communicates with the inlet passage 6, or with the atmosphere so that the pump can idle. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the member 8 is dispensed with and the slide valve 17 controls the end of the suction operation and the beginning of the discharge operation being provided for the latter with hinged control pieces which are raised by stationary guide rails 19 when the valve is rotated. In another embodiment the member 8 is dispensed with and the slide valve controls the end of the discharge operation and the beginning of the suction operation.
