Abstract
1,185,754. Liquid-ring compressors. R. GABBIONETA. March 1, 1968 [March 16, 1967], No.10224/68. Heading F1C. A multi-stage liquid-ring compression includes a casing containing at least a first and a second compartment, a rotor having a set of vanes in each compartment, a distributer fixed to the casing and inserted coaxially within the rotor, and ducts formed in the distributer for feeding gas to the first compartment, conveying it from the first to the second compartment and delivering it from the second compartment, the partition between the compartments consisting, at least in part, of a rotor wall interposed between and rotating with the two sets of vanes, and the drive shaft being fixed to only one end of the rotor. The two-stage liquidring compressor shown in Figs. 1 and 4 comprises a rotor having first-stage vanes 7 and second-stage vanes 9, operating within double-lobe compartments 10 and 11 respectively. Gas passes from an inlet duct 22 via channels 17, 18 in a distributer 15 to the inlet ports 25, 26 of the first stage, and is transferred to the second stage via ports 27, 28, channels 19, 20 and ports 29, (30) to the second stage. The compressed gas is discharged via ports 24 to an outlet duct 23. As shown, the cooperating surfaces of the rotor and the distributer 15 may be conical, adjustment of the clearance between them being effected by adjusting the rotor axially with respect to the driving shaft 4. The compressor casing 1 is clamped between a support 2 and an end cover 13 by means of bolts 14. The distributer 15 is fixed to the end cover 13 by screws 36. Liquid is supplied to the liquid rings via passages 21, 16 and holes 31, excess liquid being discharged with the gas through the outlet duct 23. In other embodiments, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), additional first and second stages operating in parallel with the others and showing the same inlet and outlet ducts (22, 23) are provided below the cover (13), the additional rotor being mounted on an extension of the shaft (4). The co-operating surfaces of each rotor and distributer are cylindrical over the extent of each second stage. In the case of a vacuum pump, Fig. 6 (not shown), the vanes (9) may be of smaller outer diameter than the vanes (7), and the end shroud 34 shown in Fig. 1 can then be omitted.
