812,018. Drying fibrous materials. FLEISSNER, J. E., FLEISSNER, H., and FLEISSNER, G., [trading as FLEISSNER & SOHN MASCHINENFABRIK], June 8, 1956 [March 7, 1956], No. 17827/56. Class 34(2) Wet fibrous material, such as rovings, is fed by a conveyer 14, Fig. 1b, to a perforate rotary drum 11 on which the material is retained and dried by warm air circulated by suction fans 12, 13, Fig, la, and heated by coils 9, disposed at the ends of the drum. In Fig. 2 the material is passed over and under alternate drums 17 disposed in separate housings 16 having access doors 160, the drums having doors on hinged covers in their cylindrical walls to permit access for cleaning. In a modification, pairs of drums are disposed in succeeding housings. In another arrangement, suitable for heavy materials, the material passes over the upper surfaces of a pair of drums 28, 29, Fig. 4, in one housing and then over the upper and lower surfaces of pairs of drums disposed in succeeding housings. In a further modification, drums 47, 50; Fig. 8b, are housed in a single housing, the drums 47, 48, 50 having fans 51, 52 at both ends, while drum 49 has a fan at one end only. In a further arrangement, the material is passed over a single drum 57, Figs. 11a and 11b and then into a reducer 61 from which it is fed to a housing containing drums 63, 64, 65 of narrower width than the drum 57. The drum 57 has fans at both ends, while the remaining drums have fans at one end only.
