Abstract

A mixture of a straight-run petroleum gas oil and a thermally cracked petroleum gas oil is catalytically desulphurized by autofiring. The mixture may contain up to 40 per cent of cracked oil. Catalysts referred to are the oxides of cobalt and molybdenum, as such or in combined form, incorporated with a metal oxide support, such as alumina; the catalysts may contain 0.1-6 per cent combined fluorine. The process may be carried out at equilibrium pressure, and in the example use of a temperature of 780 DEG F., a space velocity of 1 v.v./hr. and a recycle rate of 2000 SCF/B are referred to.
