Abstract
Petroleum hydrocarbons are hydroformed using a catalyst comprising the oxides of cobalt and molybdenum deposited on or incorporated with an alumina support, said catalyst also containing from 0.1 to 6 per cent by weight of fluorine. The preparation of suitable catalysts is described in Specification 719,627, [Group III]. The process is preferably carried out at a temperature of 850-1000 DEG F. and a pressure of 100-1000 p.s.i.g. In an example, a 100-200 DEG C. naphtha is hydroformed using a Co-Mb oxide on alumina catalyst containing 1-9 per cent by weight fluorine at a temperature of 850 DEG C., a pressure of 200 p.s.i.g., space velocity 1.0 v./v./hr. and a recycle gas rate of 2500 C.F./B. The results are compared to those of processes using molybdenum oxide on alumina as catalyst. The Provisional Specification refers broadly to the use of catalysts comprising the elements cobalt, molybdenum and fluorine as such, or combined with other elements.
