Abstract
Gas oil is autofined under the equilibrium pressure method and using a fluorine-promoted catalyst, at a temperature of 810 DEG F. and a space velocity of more than 2 v.v/hr. The catalyst comprises the oxides of cobalt and molybdenum as such or in combined form incorporated with a metal oxide support, e.g. alumina, and has a fluorine content of 2.5-3 per cent. In the example, gas oil is autofined, using a recycle rate of 2000 SCF/B and a space velocity of 4 v.v/hr.
