Abstract

Tractor vaporizing oil containing 5-15 per cent by volume of cracked material is hydrocatalytically desulphurized at a pressure 25-75 p.s.i. above the autofining equilibrium pressure of the oil. The process may be carried out at 750-800 DEG F., 0.5-5 v./v./hr. space velocity, and a gas recycle rate of 1000-4000 SCF/B, using as catalyst the oxides of molybdenum on alumina ; a hydrogen-rich gas containing about 70% by volume of hydrogen obtained from a catalytic reforming process may be used. The vaporizing oil may consist of a mixture of straight-run naphtha, SO2 kerosine extract and a catalytically cracked fraction having a boiling range of 220-270 DEG C.
