Abstract
Plant treating composition consists essentially of at least one substantially water-insoluble plant treating substance, e.g. systemic herbicide, plant hormones, fungicides and pesticides dispersed in a water-in-oil emulsion. The herbicide may be in the form of water-insoluble acids, alcohols and their derivatives. Examples of such water-insoluble acids are 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid; 2,4-dichlorophenoxy gamma butyric acid; 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy acetic acid; 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxypropionic acid; 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy gamma butyric acid; 2-methyl 4-chlorophenoxy acetic acid; 2-methyl 4-chloro phenoxy propionic acid; 2-methyl 4-chloro phenoxy gamma butyric acid; 4-chlorophenoxy acetic acid; 4-chlorophenoxy propionic acid; 4-chlorophenoxy gamma butyric acid; chlorinated benzoic acid. Examples of water-insoluble derivatives of these acids are their esters and the amides of the methyl, ethyl, butyl, hexyl, cellusolve and carbitol series, isopropyl, isooctyl, tetrahydrofurfural and butoxy ethoxy propanol esters, and amides such as the rosin and fatty amides. Suitable water-insoluble herbicidal alcohols are for examples: 2,4-dichlorophenoxy ethanol; 3,4,5-trichlorophenoxy ethanol; and 2-methyl 4-chlorophenoxy ethanol. The oils which may be used may be of any convenient kind in which the systemic herbicides are soluble either with or without the addition of a co-solvent. Specified oils are the conventional fuel oils, kerosene (i.e. paraffin oil), and related mineral oils.
