Abstract

551,714. Wetting agent compositions. FIDLER, J. C., and HULME, A. C. June 4, 1941, No. 7060. [Class 15 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] Fruit, particularly apples, is preserved by dipping in, or spraying with, an emulsion containing paraffin oil or paraffin wax, or both, and a higher olefine such as caprylene. Olive, castor, arachis or other bland fatty oil may also be included. As emulsifying agents, sodium and potassium salts of fatty acids, other than linoleic acid, fatty acid esters of an ethanolamine or morpholine, or sulphates of higher fatty alcohols, which also act as wetting agents, may be used, the dispersion medium being water or other liquid sufficiently volatile to dry quickly. The effects obtained by the treatment of apples with various emulsions are tabulated.
