Abstract
A concentrated biocidal composition comprises up to 30 per cent, preferably 20 per cent, by weight of pentachlorophenol, 1 to 15 per cent preferably 3 to 7 per cent, by weight of an aliphatic alcohol containing not more than 4 carbon atoms in the molecule, e.g. ethanol and isopropanol, 3 to 20 per cent, preferably 5 to 12 per cent, by weight of a coupling agent which is an alcohol or ketone containing 5 to 9 carbon atoms in the molecule or a mixture thereof, e.g. mesityl oxide, 3 to 20 per cent, preferably 7 to 9 per cent, by weight of an emulsifier of the group of polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters, preferably oleates, and a hydrocarbon base oil containing aromatic hydrocarbons preferably having an aromatic content of at least 50 per cent by weight.
