Class 47 A fire-extinguishing composition comprises 15 to 50 parts of a chloro-fluoro-methane and 85 to 50 parts of at least one bromo compound of an aliphatic hydrocarbon having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, no bromine-bearing carbon atom carrying more than 2 hydrogen atoms. The chloro-fluoro-methane is preferably dichloro-difluoro-methane. The bromo compound is preferably ethyl bromide or symmetrical dibrom-ethane, but may be methylene or ethylene bromide.
