Abstract
To a substantially colourless petroleum wax is added a minor proportion of 2, 4, 6-tritertiary butyl phenol as a stabilizer against heat and light. The amount added may be from 0.01 to 0.5 per cent by weight, preferably 0.1 per cent. In examples wax containing 2, 4, 6-tritertiary butyl phenol is compared with regard to its stability to heat and light with samples of the same wax containing 2, 6-ditertiary butyl-4-methyl phenol, 2, 6-di-phenylethylene-p-cresol and a mixture of di- and tri-tertiary-octyl phenol.
