Abstract

Pharmaceutical capsules composed of a water-soluble, thermoplastic, non-toxic material (e.g. gelatine, methyl cellulose or P.V.A.) contain a vehicle which melts at about 37 DEG C. and has incorporated therein a radioactive compound. The vehicle is a mixture of a wax, e.g. carbowax, spermaceti, beeswax, glyceryl monostearate or cetyl alcohol and an "oil" e.g. theobroma oil or a hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, the proportions of each being chosen so that the vehicle has the desired melting point. The radioactive compound may be an oil, e.g. glyceryl trioleate, corn and safflower oils, or oleic acid tagged with I131 or a solid, e.g. radioactive, iodine or triiodothyronine, which may be incorporated into the vehicle as such or in suspension or emulsion form.
