Abstract

A major proportion of the fat or oil present in a solid particulate animal feed composition is in the form of the calcium salts of saturated or unsaturated fatty acids instead of the glycerides thereof. The composition may include 10-20% of the calcium salts of, for example, linolei, C, linolenic and/or arachidonic acids, which may be sufficient to meet the normal calcium requirement of the animals. According to an example, a feed composition included 10% of the calcium salts of a fatty acid mixture consisting of 64% oleic acid, 17% palmitic acid, 9% hexadecenoic acid, and smaller proportions of linoleic, stearic, tetradecenoic, myristic and arachaidic acids.
