Abstract
807,355. Closuring containers. FORDS (FINSBURY) Ltd. Aug. 22, 1957 [Aug. 22, 1956], No. 25662/56. Class 125(2). Relates to apparatus in which upward movement of container C having a loose skirted cap D raises a pressure plate 1 carried on a shaft 2, this motion raising a sleeve 3 to which are pivoted at 18 crimping fingers 23 which are thus caused to swing about their fixed pivots 8 to engage the cap skirt. According to the invention, shaft 2 is so coupled to sleeve 3 that when, after crimping, the sleeve meets a stop 9 the plate can move up relative to the sleeve so that the cap skirt is positively removed from the fingers 23. As shown, spring-loaded balls 13 in the sleeve engage selectively grooves 11, 12 in the shaft, cooperating with the former in the crimping position and jumping into the latter to free the cap from the fingers. When the container is lowered, sleeve 3 first descends to open the fingers under the influence of spring 6 which then restores the shaft 2 and its plate 1 to the position in which balls 13 engage groove 11.
